Gray Composting Services Ltd utilise vertical composting units (VCU). An enclosed aerobic composting system, the VCU suits the processing of biological waste in small to medium sized municipal and industrial applications.
• Composting takes place inside modular chambers, 25m3 in capacity. Processing is continuous with waste being loaded into the top of the chamber and stabilised product removed from the bottom every day.
• The unique vertical orientation of the processing chamber enhances a natural process, with aeration provided by natural convection forces accelerated by a fan mounted on top of each chamber. Odour control is by way of self-biofiltration and leachate is not produced.
Composting is a low cost and reliable option for the management of organic residues generated by all kinds of industry.
The VCU system has been proven in numerous industrial applications, composting poultry and fish byproduct, abattoir waste, manure, fruit and vegetable waste and all kinds of sludge. With temperatures of 70-75ºC during the “hot phase” of the process, waste is heat-treated to EU and other international standards. Flexible capacity is an important factor, meaning industrial waste streams between one and 100 tonnes per day can be dealt with safely and efficiently onsite. Processing waste on-site or within the industrial zone alleviates transport costs which are often prohibitive.
